This blog is home to the ideas, thoughts, and inspiration of Brandon Smith, Principal and Owner of Southgate Residential, LLC, a design firm that specializes in residential projects. Brandon's lifelong passion for residential design began at a young age: his elementary school notebooks are filled with sketches of floor plans, he studied and collected home plan books from the time he could read, and he may well have been the only 10 year old with a subscription to Metropolitan Home.
Brandon studied architecture at Virginia Tech and earned his bachelor's degree in Interior Design from West Virginia University. After graduation, he began his career with one of the nation's leading providers of pre-designed home plans, then moved into custom residential work when that company formed a high-end design-build division. After six years there, Brandon moved on to another high-end residential architecture firm, where he continues to design thoughtful, elegant, and livable homes for clients from around the world. His work at these firms have won many awards, have proven to be crowd favorites at various Parade of Homes events, and been featured in several national and regional publications.
Throughout his career, Smith also took on his own clients, lending his expertise to a large number of interiors, renovation, and custom home projects. He has also built a small but growing portfolio of pre-designed plans that are now available for clients seeking graciously designed homes with a timeless quality. In 2010, Brandon officially formed Southgate Residential, LLC. As a small, boutique design firm, Southgate Residential LLC's clients enjoy unparalleled attention, service, and value.
